FAQs

What is Etiquette and Emotions?

Etiquette and Emotions offers virtual self-development classes for children aged 6-16 years old. The workshops run in school holidays or weekends and typically span over 4-5 sessions.

The ‘confidence, conversations and charisma’ workshop provide children with awareness of how they conduct themselves, their personal branding and how to forge strong relationships with others. The ‘emotional intelligence’ workshop equips a child with the skills to develop their self-awareness and social intelligence.

I also offer support packages for the 11+ independent school interviews.

Is etiquette not slightly outdated, irrelevant, or even elitist?

Etiquette is arguably more relevant today than ever before. With new forms of electronic communication, gender equality, international travel and social media, there are new etiquette rules to adapt to our changing world. We are so attached to our devices and children are less experienced than ever in communicating in person, how to eat around a table and socialising without checking a phone.

Etiquette is for everyone, and you do not have to have a penny to learn or practise it. Etiquette has nothing to do with status- it is about taking care of others, making them feel comfortable and respected.

What is included in the workshops? My child is already quite confident and has good etiquette

The confidence, conversations, and charisma workshop

This workshop is for your child to elevate themselves at home, with friends and in society. They will learn skills which will help them into adulthood, including not letting their mood dictate their manners, how to be confident yet humble, a good listener, make others feel comfortable and take a genuine interest in others. The workshop teaches young people how to enter conversations, hold a conversation and exit the conversation with poise. They will learn how to present themselves in terms of their attire, body language and build self-awareness and personal branding. Students learn how to deal with certain situations including playdates, gifting, sports etiquette, and etiquette online.

The emotional intelligence workshop

The first half of the course focuses on self-awareness of your emotions, your emotional triggers for anger, sadness and worry. Students will learn about a growth mindset to achieve their goals and consider their view on the world as opposed to other perspectives.

The second half of the courses focuses on social interactions, friendships, toxic behaviour in friendships, peer pressure and being assertive.

School entrance interviews

I support year 4-6 students with a two-hour interview masterclass. This includes a comprehensive list of interview questions, advice on what the school is looking for, how to conduct themselves, preparation to undertake prior to the interview and guidance on how to answer the questions.

There also an option to hear first-hand from a former 11+ student on his interview experience, and opportunities to practise answering mock interview questions in a group setting or a one-to-one.

I would like to sign up my child for a workshop however they are reluctant, and I am not sure they will engage. Do you have any advice?

I understand children might feel apprehensive or resistant to undertaking the workshops. As a parent myself I can relate to this.

Firstly, my own two children have undertaken social etiquette training with another coach, and I have witnessed the changes in their conduct and their ability to be the best version of themselves. We as care givers may have that foresight to develop their social and emotional skills, whereas students themselves may not have the experience to appreciate how the training will help them at home, at school, in social situations and to enhance their professional and personal relationships well into adulthood.

Secondly, I regularly receive testimonials from parents sharing how much their children enjoyed and benefited from the workshops (often despite their initial apprehension). The workshops are highly interactive with discussions and sharing experiences, participating in break out rooms, watching videos and  the final session ends on a quiz.

Lastly, to offer parents peace of mind; if your child is not enjoying or benefiting from the sessions and wants to terminate the course after the first session, please get in touch and a refund can be issued for the remaining sessions of the course (pro rata amount of original booking fee).

Why are the sessions virtual rather than face to face?

In my years of experience of running the courses virtually and teaching hundreds of children, running the workshop virtually enables the breakdown of several hours’ worth of content into bite size chunks. This makes it easier for the child to absorb the teachings than attending a one or two-day workshop with hours of content delivered at once.

The child can attend the course in school holidays in the convenience of their home without travel time yet interact with a diverse group of similar aged children around the country.

The online platform allows us to keep overheads low, which in turn means the courses can be delivered at highly competitive rates.

How do you ensure the child is engaged in virtual lessons?

For safeguarding reasons and optimal engagement, the child’s camera must remain on for the duration of the online course. This allows me to ensure the child is engaged, participating, and interacting to fully benefit from the workshop content.

The course will be highly interactive with discussions, break out rooms, videos, and quizzes.  The children are expected to engage and may be asked for their ideas individually, however if they are asked a question they are not comfortable answering, they do not have to answer.

The atmosphere of the workshop is informal with drinks and snacks permissible and note taking is optional.

How many children are in a session?

In the ‘self-development workshops’ there will be a maximum of eight children; students tend to enjoy the interaction and hearing ideas of their peers, whilst having the opportunity to fully engage and participate.

The Online Interview Masterclass- a maximum of six students

The ‘Platinum School Interview workshop- a maximum of five students

Group Interview Task’- maximum of six students

How much are the workshops? Is it expensive?

The self-development workshops are £89 for approx. 6 hours of content. This works out to be £14.83 an hour, however I offer the two-hour dining etiquette masterclass as a complimentary git for signing up to a workshop, which makes the cost just over £11 an hour (£89 divided by 8 hours of content).

I am positive you will find the classes be a worthwhile investment and a highly competitive fee. Etiquette schools in the city are usually 3x the price.

The ‘online school interview masterclass’ in an investment of £45 for two-hours of content. The masterclass has been devised after rigorous research, case studies and experience combined into an invaluable package.
