Most leading independent schools invite students for interviews or assessment days which include academic questions. If your child’s performance was ‘borderline’ in the examinations, the interview process may be crucial to determine if the prospective school would like to make you an offer. Mental maths questions and maths puzzles are common elements of the interview process.
I would like to reassure parents, if an 11+ or 13+ has passed the written examinations, they should be academically competent and capable of the mathematical tasks at hand; however, children may not be accustomed to verbally sharing their thought processes and articulating their calculations.
Adam Haffner has recorded a short session to increase your child’s confidence should they be posed with mental maths questions or maths puzzles.
Adam is a fully qualified teacher with more than twenty years of experience. He has worked as a senior leader and Head of Maths and English in leading prep schools. Adam runs Be My Tutor: a team of fully qualified teachers who tutor children online all around the world.
Adam has created a recording that covers:
- 3 top tips for any interview
- What should you do if you don’t know the answer to a question?
- Practising some mental maths questions
If you sign up for the silver or gold packages (either online or in-person, you will be emailed the recording of this session).
