Your Year 6/Year 8 child may be invited to a ‘Group Interview’ as part of the entrance assessment process.
The group interview may take place online or face to face. Often this may be your child’s first’s experience of taking part in an interview where they need to showcase their strengths to the interviewer as well as interacting well with their peers.
The group interview may involve:
- The interviewer directing typically interview questions at your child and other students in a group setting. However, this is less common.
- Usually, the group interview involves your child being assigned a task to complete under timed conditions, with other students to observe how they interact with others.
This session is intended to prepare students for an unexpected group task.
The interviewer/examiner will be looking to see:
- How well your child interacts with other students
- How does the student approach the task and how do they think?
- Can your son/daughter articulate their ideas and add value to the task?
- Does your child listen to others and take on board their suggestions?
- Is your child proactive and able to take initiative?
- Does your child show traits of being either too passive or aggressive?
- Can your child lead a team and take direction?
- What they can ascertain from your child’s body language and manner
This session is an opportunity to give your child a competitive edge, to feel comfortable if assigned an unexpected task and to practise interacting with other students.
The one-hour online session includes:
- Introductions & advise about group interviews
- Delegates will be assigned a task as a group (the task will be outlined on the day) Your child will be observed for their contribution and ideas, listening skills, body language and problem-solving abilities.
- Feedback and summary
Within two days of the session, the parent/guardian will be provided with:
- A marking criterion with your child’s score
- A feedback telephone call (at a pre-agreed date and time)
